Behind the Scenes of Worldcoin: The Innovator Powering the Launch of a New Cryptocurrency
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has introduced a groundbreaking cryptocurrency venture called Worldcoin. This project is distinct in its aim to verify user authenticity through a unique "World ID" obtained via in-person iris scans using the Worldcoin "orb." The company behind this innovative initiative, Tools for Humanity, recently launched Worldcoin following an extensive beta period involving 2 million users.
The concept involves expanding the "orbing" process to 35 cities across 20 countries to encourage rapid adoption. Users in select regions will be rewarded with the native cryptocurrency token, WLD, upon registration. Notably, Worldcoin uses blockchain technology to securely store World IDs while maintaining privacy and decentralization, preventing any single entity from controlling or shutting down the system.
World IDs play a pivotal role in distinguishing real individuals from AI bots in the era of advanced generative AI chatbots. This safeguard mitigates potential misuse of AI-generated content. Additionally, World IDs can address economic challenges posed by AI, as Altman envisions using them to enhance the implementation of Universal Basic Income (UBI) to combat potential income inequality stemming from AI's impact on the workforce.
While the implementation of UBI remains a distant goal, Altman sees Worldcoin as a trailblazing step toward this vision. The project seeks to lay the groundwork for socio-economic transformations driven by generative AI. Worldcoin's significance is underscored by Binance's plans to list the Worldcoin token (WLD), solidifying its position as a pioneer in the evolving landscape of blockchain and digital advancements.
